Tell a Friend about this Astrology Page

YEARS earlier George [not his real name] had called me on a Sunday asking assistance in finding a stolen automobile. It seemed he'd bought a car under rather questionable circumstances and found it missing the next morning. After preparing a horary chart, counseling him and making several telephone calls in his behalf, I was able to tell him that I thought he'd get his transportation back in three days. I never knew the outcome of the horary chart I'd cast for him. His being Sagittarius, I supposed he'd overlooked notifying me whether I'd been right or wrong -- as well as not paying me for my services.

About three years later he called again, and, after reminding me of the circumstances, told me I'd been exactly right -- his car was found by police officers and returned to him almost exactly 72 hours after the time it had been stolen by the former owner. After thanking me (which did little to pay my overhead), he asked me to do his natal chart and one for his lady friend with whom he was now living.

He was resentful of the fact that I declined the delineation (reading) of her chart for him without her written consent. I had to explain in detail that doing so was professionally unethical. I had to tell him again and again that I regarded doing so an invasion of her privacy and that I absolutely would not do it. I detailed that it was my policy not to read anyone's chart for other than that person without written consent unless it was the case of minors for parents or guardians.

Then, in my opinion, rather selfishly, he said, "But, I am concerned about the prospects of marrying her and I want to know through astrology what she's really like. I have to look out for myself."

I replied, "I can appreciate your request, but still my professional ethics will not allow me to do her chart for you without her consent. Can you get it in written form for me and give me her number so I can call her to confirm consent?"

He answered, "No, I've already asked and she won't."

"George, surely you can't ask me to do this, especially not after knowing she said no."

"But you don't understand. I don't want to make another mistake in marriage. My first one was really rotten. Come on. Be a good sport. After all, you're paid for two charts this way."

"My Saggitarius friend, don't think me ungrateful, but I don't need money that badly, and my principles can't be bought for the price of a couple of charts."

He retorted, "Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to buy you out or anything like that. I just want you to help me."

"George, I want to help you, and I feel that your own chart -- with trends -- will reveal the information you need to know relative to a second marriage, especially since we know your possible 'intended' is a Libran."

He kept insisting, "Well I really don't see how you can tell very much about compatibility just from my chart."

"Is your Libra friend willing to have me do her chart for her?"

"Yes, I am sure she'd like that."

"Very well, why don't you send your order, let me prepare your chart and then you can decide whether you want me to prepare and read her chart. Since I will record both charts, you can, if you both decide, listen to each others' recorded charts. Then you can both decide if you want to get married or whatever."

"But what if she won't let me listen to her tapes? What then?" he asked.

"Of course, that would be her choice," I replied. "I will then be happy to counsel you both together, answering as best I can any questions either of you might have regarding your individual horoscopes. This way, you'll both be 'equal' -- and no confidences will be violated."

He wasn't convinced even yet that I would not "sneak-read" her chart for him.

"How about it? Read her chart for me and I'll pay you double."

"Sorry, but nothing doing. But I'll tell you what I will do [I bluffed]. I'll read your chart to her first. Then I'll read it to you. You will give me consent, won't you?"

"Okay, you win," he said, "I see what you're talking about. My order will be in the mail today."

[By the way, his order never arrived.]
